Keeping it Simple at the Greenmarket

at the Greenmarket!I love my local Greenmarket, which pops up every Thursday and Sunday a few blocks from my apartment, at 116th and Broadway in Manhattan. I have shopped here for over 10 years, since I was a college student, when the market consisted of a modest 4-6 vendors. Now on any given market day, there are more than a dozen stands! I can get anything from honey to bread to fresh fish and, of course, all the fruits and veggies that are in season. As if the food offerings were not enough to entice me twice each week, I also schlep my compost there for bi-weekly collection, and they even offer textile recycling. As you can tell, I <3 this market.

A few weeks ago I approached the market manager, to see if I could contribute a few recipes to their handout stand. When I told her I blogged about what I was cooking, she said, “Even better! Do you want to be a guest chef?” I stuttered, “Um, yeah, sure?!?” So this Sunday found hubby Keith and me packing up our knives and a few supplies, and making the short trek to the market to be the guest chefs for the day.
